New tools developed to help improve water security in the face of climate change

Goyder Institute researchers have developed new tools to help planners and policy-makers assess the impact of climate change on water resource systems and guide adaption planning. Halfway point for Coastal Carbon Opportunities project

The Coastal Carbon Opportunities project is among the first to research climate change mitigation in coastal systems. The Goyder Institute for Water Research team, led by Professor Bronwyn Gillanders (University of Adelaide), are investigating the potential of South Australian coastal ecosystems (seagrass, mangrove and saltmarsh) for carbon sequestration and storage. The Goyder Institute for Water Research'ss G-FLOWS project was featured in the Sunday Mail on 23 March 2019, spreading the word that the team found ancient water in the Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara (APY) Lands. Early indications are that it could not only sustain the community's ongoing water needs but have significant economic development potential for the region if developed sustainably. Read More

The Goyder Institute for Water Research has won the Minister for Environment and Water's Award for Excellence and the Innovation in Large Organisations Award at the Water Industry Alliance's 2019 Smart Water Awards. Second term finishes strong – a year in review from the Director

Well, there’s no doubt that 2020 had some surprises in store for all of us. Aside from the personal challenges of operating in a global pandemic, many of our teams had to put field work on hold, limit regional travel and work from home without access to many of their tools and resources.
