Professor Craig Simmons, Director of National Centre for Groundwater Research and Training (NCGRT) and Goyder Institute Research Advisory Committee member, has been awarded Australian Water Professional of the Year.
Awarded by the Australian Water Association at the Ozwater'17 Gala Dinner in Sydney, Professor Simmons was lauded for elevating the profile of groundwater management in Australia and abroad.
Professor Simmons said he was “honoured and humbled” to receive this recognition from his peers in the water industry and paid tribute to his colleagues.
“An award like this is never about one person," he said. "I owe a tremendous debt of gratitude to the many wonderful students and colleagues – past and present – that I have had the pleasure and privilege to work with over many years.
“It has been terrific working in the water industry for the last 20 years. There are many challenges ahead and the journey is far from over. I feel like I am just getting started. I look forward to working with the water industry for many more years to come”.
Professor Simmons is a member of the Goyder Institute's Research Advisory Commitee, which provides advice on the strategic direction for research projects.
