During the final session of the Science Retreat, a prize was awarded to the Best Presenter at the Retreat as voted by the participants. The winner of the award was Tim Pitt, Senior Research Officer at SARDI Water Resources, Viticulture & Irrigated Crops. Tim conducts research associated with the use of saline irrigation water and has recently completed salinity investigations in groundwater irrigated vineyards in the South East of SA.
Tim has just commenced work on a research project that investigates salt management strategies for vineyards and almond orchards irrigated with recycled wastewater in both McLaren Vale and the Northern Adelaide Plains. He was overwhelming voted the Best Presenter in recognition of a number of qualities demonstrated during his 10 minute presentation. He displayed a good manner and presentation style that enabled him to present an interesting topic, which was also easily understood. The audience was able to follow the whole 'story' with key messages and findings presented clearly and concisely, with the use of excellent visuals. Moreover, there was a clear industry link and the project offers practical solutions.
This research project is co-funded by both the Goyder Institute for Water Research and the Australian Water Recycling Centre of Excellence. The project represents collaboration between SARDI, the University of Adelaide and local viticulture and horticulture businesses. The objective of the project is to demonstrate the economic and environmental value of water recycling to Australia’s agri-food industry. A copy of the presentation can be found here.
