New Strategic Research Plan 2015-2019

The Goyder Institute for Water Research launched a new Strategic Research Plan at a major briefing session event on 22nd July, 2016

Tim Goodes, Deputy Chief Executive of the Department of Environment, Water and Natural Resources (DEWNR) and a member of the Goyder Institute Management Board, officially launched the plan in front of 100 representatives from the Institute’s partners and associates and other key government, industry and research organisations.

Partners and other stakeholders were given an overview of our strategic priorities over the coming year, with presentations on key research projects that are being developed. Presentations were also given on research outcomes from a number of projects conducted during the Institute’s first term and their application to support water policy and management. Some of these have laid the basis for new proposed projects.

The Strategic Research Plan outlines an exciting and dynamic roadmap for future research, linked to three targeted impact areas:

Economic Development – via three streams of Mining and Energy; the Northern Corridor (Two Wells to Whyalla); and International Engagement.
Healthy Ecosystems – via three streams of Catchments; Coasts and Marine; and Communities.
Climate Action – in the areas of Water Security; Carbon Neutrality; and Extreme Events.

The Institute’s unique collaborative model will utilise expertise from government, universities and the private sector to build a knowledge platform that supports the needs of end users. Our research outcomes will continue to underpin South Australia’s water management policy, providing innovative techniques and solutions to future-proof the state’s water requirements, ensuring economic prosperity and tackling the challenges of a changing climate.
