Water industry Alliance members are invited to join the Goyder Institute team to hear special guest Dr Harriet Whiley talk about strategies to control Legionella and opportunistic waterborne pathogens at the WIA November Lunch and Learn.
Dr Whiley is an environmental microbiologist and lecturer in environmental health at Flinders University. Opportunistic waterborne pathogens are an increasingly significant public health issue and are a major preventable cause of healthcare acquired infections within hospitals and healthcare facilities. One of the primary waterborne pathogens of concern is Legionella which is the causative agent of Legionnaires disease. Dr Whiley’s presentation will explore the current challenges for water management strategies aimed at controlling Legionella and other opportunistic pathogens and present some potential solutions for the future.
